CT Arts Administrators Recognizes Rob Werner as Outstanding Arts Advocate



The Connecticut Arts Administrators Association recognized Rob Werner as an outstanding advocate for Music Education at the Arts Advocate's Breakfast event held in the Old Judiciary Room at the CT State Capitol in Hartford on Thursday, May 9th.  Pictured: Rick Sadlon, Director of Music, Terrie Wood, CT State Representative, Rob Werner, CAAA Award recipient and  DHS Director of Bands, Jon Grauer.















Middlesex Orchestras Present Their 2019 Spring Concert

The Middlesex Middle School Orchestras, under the direction of Mr. Austin Scelzo, presented their Spring Concert at Darien High School on Wednesday, May 8th.  The 6th grade Orchestra, pictured above, started out the evenings's performances.

A Bluegrass Band plays an arrangement of "June Apple."

The 7th grade Orchestra performs George Gershwin's "I Got Ryhthm" with improvised solos.

Irish Dancers were special featured guests and performed to "Irish Washerwoman."

The 8th Grade Orchesta takes a bow after their performance of the Agentinian Tango "El Choclo."

The MMS Camerata Singers and Mrs. Sadler joined the ROCKestra in the evening's finale, "Africa."

Middlesex Choruses Present 2019 Spring Concerts

The MMS 6th Grade Chorus presented their Spring Concert on May 6th. The MMS 6th grade Chorus is directed by Mrs. Sadler and Mr. O'Donnell.

The 6th Grade Chorus performing A Million Dreams (from the Greatest Showman) with featured singers.

The 7th Grade Chorus in Concert performing "I Ask for One Day" conducted by Mrs. Sadler and accompanied by Mr. O'Donnell.

Our 7th Grade Chorus in concert on May 6th.

The 2019 MMS 8th Grade Chorus performs "Breaking Free" with soloists Cian LeVine and Helen Ungar.

The entire 8th Grade Chorus at Darien HS on May 6th.

Our 6th Grade Viva Voce Chorus performs "Bohemian Rhapsody" under the direction of Mrs. Parnoff.

The 2019 MMS Camerata Singers under the direction of Mrs. Kimberly Sadler performing Mr. O'Donnel's arrangement of "Lasso the Moon." 

The Camerata Singers were joined by the MMS ROCKestra as they performing the concert finale "Africa."

Darien High School 2019 Spring Concerts and Awards

Senior cello soloist, Elizabeth Garijo-Garde performs the Cello Concerto in E minor by Edward Elgar with the DHS Chamber Orchestra conducted by Ms. Jane Minnis on May 1st.
The senior members of our Band  are recognized and congratulated by Mr. Grauer at the DHS Bands Concert on May 2.

The 2019 DHS Jazz Ensemble featuring soloists Doug Werner and Madison Pomeroy.

The 2019 John Philip Sousa Band Award was awarded to senior Veronica Mejias, pictured with Mr. Grauer.

The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was presented to senior alto saxophonist Doug Werner. 

The DHS Wind Ensemble featured cello soloist Elizabeth Garijo-Garde and vocalists, Perris Trask, Mackenzie Lauture and Shannon Flaherty. 

The Darien HS Tudor Singers performing in their Spring Concert on Monday, April 29th under the direction of Christopher Andrade

DHS Leonard Bernstein Outstanding Musicianship Award recipient Evelyn Sload with Director of Music, Mr. Sadlon. Evelyn was also the recipient of the National School Choral Award.

The Darien High School Concert Choir in their final formal concert of the school year on April 29 under the direction of Mr. Andrade..

The Senior members of the DHS Orchestra were recognized and congratulated by orchestra Director, Ms. Jane Minnis on their May 1 Spring Concert.

National School Orchestra Award recipient for 2019 Elizabeth Garijo-Garde with DHS Orchestra Director, Ms. Jane Minnis. Elizabeth also was the recipient of the 2019 Darien Music Department Outstanding Service Award.

Darien Musical Ensembles Perform in NYC and Washington, DC Festivals!



 
The Darien High School Chorus performed in Washington D.C. on April 24-27.

The Darien High School Chorus performed the National Anthem at the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The Darien High School Choruses, directed by Christopher Andrade, performed in the Heritage Music Festival in Washington, D.C. on April 25-28 and were adjudicated by the professor of choirs at George Mason University. The Concert Choir performed beautifully and placed second place in their category and division with a Silver (Excellent) rating. The Tudor Singers earned a Gold (Superior) rating – and were awarded the Adjudicators' Award for Outstanding Choral Group, having been the highest-scoring vocal group in any category or division for the entire festival.   Additionally, the Tudor Singers earned a spot at next year's invitation-only Festival of Gold at Carnegie Hall. 


The Darien High School Orchestra performing at the Heritage World Strides Music Festival in NYC on April 27th.
The Darien High School Orchestra, conducted by Jane Minnis, was awarded a Silver rating at the 2019 World Strides Heritage Music Festival in New York City on April 27th.  The Orchestra impressed the judges with their sound and balance and high level of orchestral literature. Jeffrey Campbell from Eastman School of Music and composer Carl Strommen adjudicated the ensembles and provided the students with a helpful clinic following their performance. The students were able to listen to other ensembles and meet music students from schools throughout the US and Canada.  Theie day ended with an awards ceremony aboard a Circle Line ship.
